Ukraine is working hard to fulfill its pending commitments to the Council of Europe. Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, made this statement, meeting PACE President Mevlüt Çavusoğlu on Monday.
V. Lytvyn declared that Ukraine highly appreciated "objective, principled, and well-intentioned" position of PACE President, and expressed gratitude for the high level of cooperation between the Council of Europe and its Assembly and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. According to him, Ukrainian Parliament expects active cooperation with PACE and support of Ukrainian priorities on the international level. "We will organize our work to make our presidency in the Ministerial Committee of the Council of Europe efficient and to fulfill our commitments to the Council of Europe", he stated. V. Lytvyn declared that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is working hard to fulfill the recommendations of PACE.
The Head of the Parliament also emphasized that dialogue between Ukraine and the Council of Europe should be devoid of ‘political emotions.´
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada highly appreciated the level of Ukrainian-Turkish bilateral relations, and expressed gratitude to Ahmet Bülent Meriç, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey to Ukraine, who was present at the meeting, for efficient work.
In his turn, PACE President commented on the intensification of relations between Ukraine and the Council of Europe, and stated that PACE expects successful implementation of reforms in Ukraine.
Discussing Ukrainian-Turkish relations, M. Çavusoğlu expressed his hopes that in the course of the official visit of Viktor Yanukovych, President of Ukraine, to the Republic of Turkey scheduled for December 2011, several essential documents will be signed such as the documents on visa-free regime.
